
Ibrahim de Carvalho is a 2024–2025 Nathanson Fellow at Osgoode Hall Law School, pursuing a PhD in Law. His research focuses on AI regulation in healthcare, examining how a principle-based regulatory framework can balance innovation with privacy, accountability, and fairness.
He holds a Global Professional Master of Laws and an LLM from the University of Toronto, a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Business from Oxford University, a Master’s in International Development Administration from Western Michigan University, and a Law Degree from Agostinho Neto University. His academic achievements include the Fulbright Scholarship, Newton Rowell Fellowship, Harley D. Hallett Scholarship, and Ernst & Young Scholarship.
Ibrahim has also completed professional training at Harvard Law School (Leadership in Corporate Counsel) and Harvard Kennedy School of Government (Emerging Leadership Program).
Ibrahim has extensive experience in legal, business, and regulatory fields. As Chief Innovation Officer and Director of Strategy at Dr. Peter Fritz Professional Corporation, he led AI implementation in clinical practice. Previously, he served as Legal Manager at Schlumberger and Angola LNG, overseeing high-value transactions, compliance, and risk management. Additionally, he worked as a Risk and Financial Stability Coordinator, advising on financial regulations and policy development.
He is committed to legal education, having taught at Ace Acumen Academy (St. Clair College) and Agostinho Neto University. Currently, he is a Teaching Assistant for Introductory Lawyering Skills at Osgoode Hall Law School.
A native Portuguese speaker, he has high proficiency in French and Spanish. His interests include human rights, AI governance, investment law in Africa, and Law and Economics.
